Where’s the colour?

No expense has been spared on colour. But we have saved it ALL for the event. No colour has been wasted on the trivialities of a website.

Disclaimer: all of our colours are on the spectrum and heavily medicated.

Acknowledgement of Country

This event takes place on the traditional land of the Kolakgnat people of the Gulidjan Nation. Land that was never ceded. We recognise their ongoing connection to the lands and waters. And the profound importance of their culture and dreaming, which has spanned tens of thousands of years. We pay respects to their elders, past present and emerging. We also recognise that any talk of climate justice must include First Nations Peoples justice.

What is Flights of Fancy?

Well the Cambridge dictionary defines a Flight of Fancy as:

“…an idea, story, or plan that is very imaginative but highly unrealistic, impractical, or unlikely to be true.”

And that seems the perfect place to start. 

Every year we, Dharma and Simon put everything into throwing one big party. So this is it. Although technically this one straddles last year (this year) and next year, so that’d make it our second party, which we never do making this one even more special.

We re-define Flights of Fancy, and certainly this event as:

a collective story of whimsy and bewilderment in which you are the narrator.

We all are. And so we’re encouraged to bring our own signature of whimsy to contribute to these Flights of Fancy. 

Let your ideas take flight for the amusement of all.  

Create beauty. Care, share, be wild.

But what is it really?

Oh, sorry.  Tired of the figurative already? Okay in a literal sense Flights of Fancy is a 2 & a half day micro-festival for 100 people 2.5 hours out of Mordor.

It features…

  • A collection of organised activities, ad hoc events, random surprises (that are actually cleverly curated), other random surprises that are actual random surprises.

There is:

  • Lots of participation, engagement, connection and mutual creation.
  • State of the art sound, understated art and a range of favourite DJ’s who, lets call it for what it is: mostly play that genre commonly referred to as techno.
  • Beauty that ranges across multiple modalities and various forms.
  • Camping and gardens and orchards.
  • A lake, a courtyard, a rambling villa with a long room, a kitchen, a costumery, a commitment to co-creation and fun.
There will be dancing, discussion, activities, films, games, sport and at some point in the proceedings, we realise we have become a community. 

Fancy Facilities

  • Camping – A plethora of options from:
    •  The Orchard of Biblical Temptations,
    • The Eastern Block,
    • The Field of Dreams,
    • The Heights of the Lake

    • The Mists of Avalon at Lakeside at the back and down the hill (the quietest area for those who are family oriented & or noise averse)

  • 2 Toilet Temples – The new epic block, and down by the lake, these compostable drop toilets use the same system devised by Folk Rhythm & Life Festival, a locally designed ecologically friendly system that turns our human waste into bio-available compost. They are comfortable, private and if EVERYONE puts a double hand-full of sawdust on top of their deposit, the whole thing remains clean, benign on the nose and an opportunity for quiet repose and gentle reflection, whilst you judge the shit out of the things written on the walls.

 

  • Star Bath -In the open air beside the Shower Block, and replete with its own shower (cold) is the world renowned & epically majestic bush bath. Powered by a wood fire and lit by the stars and moon, nothing is quite like a a star bath.

  • Star Kitchenelle -Auxillary Kitchenette for everyone. Kitchen sink, hot and cold water gas cooker, fridge and benches. Your caloric sustainability is assured.

The Button

As much as we provide the space, the space is a canvas to which we each bring the palette of our creation.

After you’ve arrived and set up (hopefully), and before the festivities begin we Call everyone together for a grand declaration of the fun to come. This year it is a toast. Goodbye to the year just past and a signal flare to the year to come. 

We will Acknowledge Country.  We define the space, make us all feel safe by providing clear boundaries and expectations for how we can best take responsibility for ourselves in a way that cares for the whole.

This is also an opportunity for anyone who has something they would like to offer (that hasn’t been sent to us and announced in advance) to state that intention and add it to our schedule of Flights of Fancy.  

Make no mistake this is first and foremost an excursion into the music and an explosion of dance on beautifully engineered Function One PA in the faerie garden under the stars.

lIn case you’re fucked.

Whilst we choose to care about the neighbours of Wolfgangs and thereby don’t want to dominate their lives for three days we do also care about having AMAZING AUDIO – So to that end we’re very pleased to advise we’ve once again engaged the services of Dr.Ishtar and his Function One Doomsday PA hence we’ll have the beautiful humming quad array set up and maintained for quality assurance purposes by the evil professor himself.

Our main room environment is the ill begotten love child of Gilligan’s and Fantasy Islands. It is the perfect avenue for roaring baselines, clothes lines, Shakespearean soliloquies (and lines), and lines of all kinds. It is a line-paradise lost. It is outdoors, but comfortably situated beside the buildings, the toilets, the orchard and the Centre of Attention (courtyard).

To fix you up in the case that you fell foul of the exorcisms and sage advice.
